As the summer is starting, we have spent the last few months asking God what this season should look like. We wanted to be open to new ideas and not just limit ourselves to the “same old, same old” program. During prayer, Gleanings’ leadership felt like God wanted them to approach the young single staff members with the idea of leading the young adults who would spend the fruit season here as summer staff. After some discussion and prayer, the young single staff decided that they were up for the challenge. Since their decision to lead the summer staff team, a string of authority was made for the support of these new leaders. Fritz Meier, as well as previous summer staff leaders, Jenny Bruce, and Rod Lawrence, will be overseeing the summer staff leadership to guide, encourage, and challenge these new leaders. The summer staff leadership have been getting together at least once a week, since the end of March, to pray and discuss the summer program. The summer staff program entails young adults, between the ages of 18-25, who will be discipled by Gleanings’ summer leadership. Summer staff will help run the peach plant and minister to the large groups of teenagers who flow through each week. Each summer staff member was prayed for and carefully considered before being accepted. This has prepared our leadership, leaving them with a confidence and excitement about this summer’s helpers. It is exciting to see the young Gleanings’ staff members taking a chance to lead, and grow in their talents and giftings.
